In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at dismantling stigma surrounding mental health, a new podcast from Cambridgeshire is set to make waves. The inaugural episode features Gary Clarke, a former prison officer turned mental health advocate, alongside Allan Hughes, who leads co-production efforts at CPSL Mind.
Both of these passionate advocates are dedicated to assisting fathers through the perinatal services provided by CPSL Mind, which includes the well-regarded Andy's Man Club located in Peterborough. Clarke has taken on a pivotal role as a Perinatal Project Dads Worker at CPSL Mind, where he actively engages with fathers across the region of Cambridgeshire.
Reflecting on the challenges men face, Clarke remarked, "Life presents many struggles, and there’s often societal pressure on men to be the providers. However, we are working to shatter that stigma."
He further emphasized, "Mental health is fundamentally about striving to be your best self, rather than conforming to others’ expectations."
Hughes added, "The conversations we are facilitating are raw, authentic, and incredibly relevant to today's issues. We are excited to work alongside CPSL Mind to ensure that mental health support is within reach for everyone."
