Daresbury Park Hotel Reopens: A New Chapter After Migrant Accommodation (2026)

The upcoming reopening of Daresbury Park Hotel is drawing attention to its past, which has been somewhat controversial. After undergoing a significant refurbishment costing millions, the hotel is set to welcome guests once again in March. This marks a notable change for a venue that has remained closed to the public for over five years.

Previously, this hotel was utilized by the Home Office to accommodate migrants, a situation that became widely known and raised various discussions in the community. It was during last May's Runcorn and Helsby by-election that it was announced this contract would come to an end, paving the way for the hotel's revival.

In December, Elite Venue Selection, the management company behind the hotel, confirmed its plans to reopen as a four-star establishment with a brand-new look. Interestingly, previous communications from hotel management did not acknowledge its history as a migrant accommodation facility, despite the widespread awareness among locals.

Many readers expressed their concerns about the hotel’s past when commenting on articles regarding its reopening and the accompanying health club. In response to inquiries from the Warrington Guardian and Runcorn and Widnes World, hotel representatives have finally addressed the reasons behind the previous closure and shared their vision for the hotel's future as a reintegrated part of the community.

A spokesperson from Elite Venue Selection explained, "In 2020, Daresbury Park Hotel was chosen for its capacity to assist the Government's strategy for the temporary housing of asylum seekers. It provided emergency shelter to individuals and families seeking refuge during a particularly challenging time for the hospitality sector. This decision was made when operating as a public hotel wasn’t financially viable, allowing the property to remain functional and ensuring essential maintenance could continue.

The current renovations symbolize a definitive shift away from that chapter. Our choice to reopen and rebrand the hotel represents our commitment to progress, reinvesting in the local area, and restoring the hotel as a valued asset in the community.

Daresbury Park Hotel is being thoroughly upgraded to operate as a four-star venue under our premium Elite Venue Selection brand. Our goal is to attract a diverse range of new leisure and business visitors to the region, create job opportunities, and positively impact the local economy.

We aspire for the focus to eventually shift towards what the hotel will offer moving forward: local employment opportunities, luxurious accommodations, versatile event spaces, and a refreshed health club featuring an indoor heated pool, steam room, spa pool, gym, and fitness suite.

The imminent reopening signifies the start of a new chapter, and we warmly invite local residents to visit and experience the completely transformed hotel and health club for themselves.
